The Most Expensive Golf Clubs (and the Headcovers That Fit Them)

Steel golf irons standing in a golf bag on a sunny course

The most expensive golf clubs you can buy new are Honma Beres 5-Star models. The most expensive club ever sold is Tiger Woods' backup Scotty Cameron putter, which went for $393,300 at auction in 2021. In between you'll find hand-finished Japanese drivers, tour-only putters and five-figure sets. Below is what each one costs, where every number comes from, and what to slip over the head once it's in your bag.

The short answer: The most expensive golf clubs you can buy new are Honma's Beres 10 5-Star models, custom built in Sakata, Japan, with a gold finish. A 5-Star driver lists at about $5,000–$6,000, and a full set runs about $45,000–$70,830. The most expensive club ever sold is Tiger Woods' backup Scotty Cameron Newport II putter: $393,300 at auction in 2021.

We checked every price below against its named source in October 2026. Retail prices and auction results are listed separately. Both move, so read every figure as "about" and confirm with the seller before you buy.

Why Some Golf Clubs Cost So Much

A mainstream driver and a $6,000 driver are both 460cc titanium heads. What separates them is how they're made and who wants them. Four things push the price up:

  • Handwork. Honma custom builds every club in Sakata, Japan, and quotes four to six weeks for assembly and delivery. That's Japanese craftsmanship applied to a golf club.
  • Precious finishes. At Honma's 5-Star level, Golf Digest reports the entire head and crown are coated in 14-karat gold. Majesty's Prestigio 14 driver gets a mirror finish with gold ion plating.
  • Few sellers. NorthCrest Golf says it's one of only nine U.S. locations that carry Majesty's Prestigio line.
  • Provenance. A putter Tiger Woods handled is worth far more than the same model off the shelf.

Technology adds cost too, but the premium on high-tech clubs is a separate story. Luxury golf clubs are priced on craft and scarcity first. Clothing works the same way (see what luxury actually means in golf). You pay for how the thing is made.

The Most Expensive Drivers

New retail prices, ranked by the top of each range.

Rank Driver Price Where the price comes from
1 Honma Beres 10 5-Star About $5,000–$6,000 Honma US lists $6,000 (backordered, Oct 2026). Golf Digest, Feb 2026: $5,000
2 Majesty Prestigio 14 About $2,200–$2,800 NorthCrest Golf: $2,200. TourSpec Golf: $2,800 list, $2,520 sale (Oct 2026)
3 Honma Beres 10 4-Star About $2,000–$2,600 Golf Digest, Feb 2026: $2,000. Honma US: $2,600 (Oct 2026)
4 Honma Beres 10 3-Star About $1,200–$1,440 Golf Digest, Feb 2026: $1,200. Honma US: $1,440 (Oct 2026)

Honma Beres 10 5-Star Driver

The most expensive driver on sale today is the Honma Beres 10 5-Star. Honma's US site lists it at $6,000 and shows it as backordered. When the Beres 10 line launched, Golf Digest put the 5-Star driver at $5,000, so call it about $5,000–$6,000. It pairs a titanium body with Honma's ARMRQ shaft and a gold finish.

Honma Beres 10 4-Star and 3-Star

The same driver comes in three grades. More stars means a more complex build and more gold in the design. Golf Digest listed the 4-Star at $2,000 and the 3-Star at $1,200. Honma US now shows $2,600 and $1,440.

Majesty Prestigio 14 Driver

Majesty is the other Japanese name at the top of the market. The Prestigio 14 driver sells for $2,200 at NorthCrest Golf, while TourSpec Golf lists it at $2,800 ($2,520 on sale). The design draws on kirikane, the Japanese metal-leaf technique, and the shaft weighs as little as 37 grams. It ships with its own headcover.

What to cover it with: Don't put a driver this expensive back in a stock sock. The St. Andrews Teddy Bear Driver Cover (Beige, $230) is soft and padded, and it fits a full-size head. For the 5-Star fairway wood or hybrid next to it, the Vuzzry Valdr D.S.P Skull Headcover ($1,100) is the collector's pick. It's cast in ABS and finished by hand in Japan, and it's cut for fairways, hybrids, irons and putters. It won't fit a 460cc driver. Read more about the Japanese label behind it.

The Most Expensive Putters

Putters are where the numbers jump. An auction result and a dealer's asking price aren't the same thing, so the table marks which is which.

Tiger Woods' Scotty Cameron Newport II (Backup), $393,300

In August 2021, Golden Age Golf Auctions sold Tiger Woods' 2002 Scotty Cameron Newport II backup putter for $393,300. According to PGA Tour, it never saw tournament play, but Woods handled it in practice, and only about seven genuine backups like it are believed to exist. It's believed to be the record for a single club at auction, though not for golf memorabilia overall.

Scotty Cameron Newport II (2001), $155,000

The same auction house sold a 2001 Scotty Cameron Newport II for $155,000 in September 2020.

Scotty Cameron Circle T and GSS Tour Putters

Circle T putters are made for tour players, not retail shelves. GSS stands for German stainless steel, and GSS heads carry the top asking prices. At the time of writing, Tour Putter Gallery lists Circle T models from about $7,000 up to $35,000 for a GSS Timeless prototype. Many come with a matching Circle T headcover, and collectors chase those too. This kind of collecting is far newer than golf's oldest traditions, but it works the same way. People pay for the story attached to the object.

What to cover it with: Match the cover to the head shape. Most collector Scottys are blades (Newport and Anser shapes), so start with our guide to blade vs mallet putter covers. A putter worth this much belongs in a genuine leather putter cover that closes securely. If yours is a center-shaft LAB DF3, a blade cut won't fit it properly. You need a DF3-cut cover like the Golden Soul Serano Center DF3 cover ($275, hand-woven cognac leather with a magnetic closure), or see our pick of LAB Golf DF3 putter covers.

The Most Expensive Golf Club Sets

New retail prices for complete or near-complete bags.

Rank Set Price Where the price comes from
1 Honma Beres 10 5-Star package: 13 clubs plus Kiriko cart bag $70,830 Honma US and NorthCrest Golf, Oct 2026
2 Honma Beres 10 5-Star irons: 5–11, AW, SW $54,000 Honma US, Oct 2026 ($6,000 per iron)
3 Honma Beres 10 5-Star package: 10 clubs plus bag Just over $45,000 Golf Digest, Feb 2026
4 Majesty Prestigio 14: driver, fairway wood, hybrid, irons About $10,050 NorthCrest Golf list prices added up: $2,200 + $1,600 + $950 + $5,300

Honma Golf Clubs: The Beres 10 5-Star Set

The most expensive golf club set you can buy new is Honma's Beres 10 5-Star package. Honma US lists the 13-club version at $70,830. That gets you a driver, two fairway woods, a hybrid, and nine irons and wedges, plus a Kiriko cart bag. Golf Digest put Honma's main 10-club 5-Star offering at just over $45,000. Depending on the build, expect about $45,000 to $70,830.

Honma golf clubs are built around that star system. Every grade is custom assembled in Sakata, and the Beres 10 decoration borrows from Edo Kiriko, a Japanese cut-glass art. Clubmaking has been a hand trade since golf's earliest clubmakers, and Honma is one of the few big brands still pricing that way.

Majesty Prestigio 14

Majesty's Prestigio 14 is the more attainable luxury build. At NorthCrest Golf's prices, the irons are $5,300, the fairway wood is $1,600 and the hybrid is $950. Add the $2,200 driver and you're at about $10,050 before a putter or bag.

What to cover it with: A full set needs covers to match. The Pearly Gates Jack Bunny 8-Piece Iron Cover Set (Silver, $209) covers the irons and has a soft inner lining. Pearly Gates is the Japanese brand, founded in 1989, behind the Jack Bunny line.
